Banks Quarles Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, Inc., is a third generation company founded in 1920 by Banks W. Quarles Sr. He was succeeded by his son, Banks W. Quarles jr. in 1950. In 1973, the reigns were turned over to his son, Rusty Quarles. During this time, the company grew from two trucks and 4 employees, to a fleet of 15 trucks and 27 employees and staff. In 1999, Rusty Quarles was awarded Small Business Person of The Year by the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce. In 2002 Rusty Quarles passed away and his wife, Paula Quarles took over the business. In 2007 Paula Quarles was presented the Roots and Wings award for women in business by the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce. The award is for women that left behind the familiar ( she was a 2nd grade school teacher ) to take on the challenge of running a successful family business. In 2008, Paula Quarles was presented the Entrepreneur of The Year Award by the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce.
